The Volvo Ocean Race
SAP brings data science and biometrics to one of the world’s toughest sailing races
Ryan West, AkzoNobel’s performance manager, says predictive modeling is the key. West and his counterparts at SAP have implemented a biometric measurement program with the sailors, each of them wearing a watch with an optic heartrate sensor.
Team AkzoNobel has won the sixth leg of the Volvo Ocean Race after nearly three weeks of racing on the 11,000-kilometer passage from Hong Kong to New Zealand.
Crew members will be measured for fitness, stress and exhaustion in one of the world’s most gruelling sailing races, thanks to biometric sensors and technology from SAP.
A part of the SAP Leonardo digital innovation system, SAP Leonardo IoT Edge is being used to capture the biometric data of the crew at sea.
The final race in The Hague
After sailing 45,000 miles around the planet, The Hague will be the Volvo Ocean Race fleet's final destination. Please find the program here.
